by admina

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Angkor Archaeological Park, Cambodia’s most iconic tourist destination, has achieved a significant milestone by generating $30.33 million in revenue from ticket sales in the first eight months of 2024. This marks a 31.3% increase compared to the $23.09 million earned during the same period last year.

The park, located in Siem Reap province, attracted 651,857 international tourists between January and August 2024, up 30.7% from 498,513 visitors in the same timeframe in 2023. The top five source markets for visitors were the United States, Britain, France, South Korea, and China.

Factors Contributing to the Increase

Several factors have contributed to this impressive growth:

  1. New Infrastructure: The opening of the Chinese-invested Siem Reap Angkor International Airport in November 2023 has made the park more accessible to international travelers.
  2. Cultural Exchange Initiatives: The Cambodia-China people-to-people exchange year 2024 has encouraged more Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia and the Angkor.
  3. Enhanced Marketing Efforts: Increased promotional activities and marketing campaigns have raised global awareness about the park’s historical and cultural significance.

Monthly Performance

In August 2024 alone, Angkor Park received 67,482 foreign holidaymakers, generating $3.15 million in revenue. This represents a 14% increase in visitors and a 13.7% rise in revenue compared to August 2023.

Historical Significance

The Angkor Archaeological Park, spanning 401 square kilometers, is home to 91 ancient temples built between the 9th and 13th centuries. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992 and remains Cambodia’s most popular tourist destination.

Future Prospects

With ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and promote cultural tourism, Angkor Park is poised to continue its upward trajectory in attracting international visitors and generating revenue. The park’s management is optimistic about sustaining this growth and further enhancing the visitor experience.
